The Industry Canada Poll
RESULTS

NEW FCC INFO ADDED DEC 29

Dear fellow Canadian Amateur:

On behalf of the Kitchener-Waterloo Amateur Radio Club, I wish to thank everyone who took part in our poll.

The following numbers reflect the average response. More detailed crunching will be performed to look for trends by licence class and geographic area. Stay tuned!

The Survey closed Sun Dec 21 at 12:28:17 EST 1997 There were 167 responses to the survey. The average response to question 1 is: 2 The average response to question 2 is: 3 The average response to question 3 is: 5 The average response to question 4 is: 6 The average response to question 5 is: 4

The polls opened on Sunday December 7th and closed at 12 noon eastern time Sunday December 21. There were 397 visits to the web site however as you can see above, only 167 amateurs completed the questionnaire. This could have been due to the fact that the questions were somewhat poorly worded or just curiosity.

If you browse the comments you will see that several amateurs seemed to have confused their proficiency certificate with their station licence. No doubt similar confusion would have occurred with the poll commissioned by Industry Canada on December 1st and 2nd.

Late News:
FCC looking at reorganization south of the border.

I wish to extend my thanks to Dave Schwartz VA3DGS who was able to deliver the automated poll engine and database to our web site within hours of my initial request. Thanks Dave and thanks to everyone who participated.

Merry Christmas to all

THESE ARE THE ACTUAL QUESTIONS USED IN THE SURVEY TAKEN ON DEC.1st AND 2nd

The Pollster gave this background statement

Industry Canada is exploring the possibility of regulating radio operators without the use of radio station licenses. This essentially means that the Department would not issue amateur radio station licences but would continue with its present amateur radio operator certification program and continue to issue call signs. The amateur radio callsigns would be issued with amateur radio operator certificates. Although Industry Canada has not worked out all the details of operating this way, we would be interested in knowing what your opinion is on the issue.

Question 1
To what extent would you be in favour of exempting all radio amateurs from the radio station licensing requirements which includes paying licence fees?
